Meet Our Team

John Pensky, Owner

As a lifelong dog enthusiast, I know all owners can relate - the happiest part of my day is coming home to a canine companion. I’ve developed unique and strong relationships with all of my pups, beginning as a child and most recently with our rambunctious Bouvier named Chewie. I became interested in training as a college student, when I fostered and later adopted a stubborn Mastiff named Brutus. He was in desperate need of training and I became obsessed with trying different methods to eventually transform his behavior. I realized through that experience how much better our relationships with our dogs can be with a little patience and effort. I continued to work closely with dogs over the years to refine my techniques. When my dad and Barb announced their retirement in the spring of 2022, I jumped at the chance to take the reins at Laughing Dog Inn. After 12 years working as a film editor, the chance to give each dog who comes to play a positive learning experience is a welcome challenge. The beautiful views and fresh air at our facility are an added bonus!

I believe each training method has its place, and I don’t emphasize the use of just one method. My goal as a trainer is to help you rethink your relationship with your dogs. Training techniques can only go so far - education and coaching is really the key to being the best dog parent you can be and creating a happy family for your pup to thrive in.

As your Chief Dog Advocate, I promise to ensure your pup has a loving and positive experience at our Inn.

All staff members employed at Laughing Dog Inn are carefully chosen, having to demonstrate both a knowledge of and a love for dogs. An eye for detail, a warm sunny personality and common sense are necessary attributes along with prior experience with dogs.  Training is intense and covers safety, dog body language, dog behavior and both common and uncommon physical illness.  While we rarely have emergencies, everyone is fully trained to handle any emergency quickly and effectively.  Every day, for all of us, is a learning experience.....the dogs are our greatest teachers and for that we are grateful!

And unlike many dog boarding facilities, we have a minimum of 1 staff member for every 10 dogs.  Which means that every dogs gets its individual needs met....more than a number, your dog is special to us!

My goal every day is to make sure EVERY dog gets a hug, belly scratch, kiss or just a pat on the head if that's all they want. I make sure there are no boo boos that need tending to. And if they have one I'll kiss that too.

Laughing Dog Inn is not a family business, it’s a business family and we treat all the dogs here like family.
